Tuning the Bagpipe

Note: Bagpipe " A" is actually Bb in concert pitch.
    1. Tune the drones of the lead bagpipe by ear. Make sure they are in tune with the chanter.

    2. Turn on the tuner. Push the Manual button until the note selected is Bb. The calibration on the left should be set to 440 Hz.

    3. Hold the meter up to the outside tenor of the tuned pipe, and push the Calibrate button until: 
    • the Green LED lights steadily
    • the red lights stop
    • the needle is locked at 0
     
    4. Note the number displayed on the left. For example: 447 Hz.

    5. Tune the rest of the drones to this setting. Have each piper tune their outside tenor to the meter, then tune the middle tenor and bass to the outside tenor by ear.
